Spring is just around the corner and with the warmer, sunnier weather comes the busiest time of year for real estate. So, if you’re keen to sell, don’t waste any time preparing your property for new owners – while remembering COVID-19 could add to possible issues.
But first, fundamentals….
Research your local region and talk to real estate agents in your area for advice on how the property market is performing, especially regarding COVID-19. Read up on industry experts’ recommendations and opinions. Don’t forget COVID-19 is rapidly changing auction and open house inspection details so double-check current real estate restrictions in your area.
Bright beginnings
Once you’ve made the decision to sell, work on creating a special property, which will impress from the get go. First impressions are crucial so get out to your gardens and start weeding, mowing and trimming. Don’t forget to tidy up decks and verandas. Pay, or ask for, help from professionals and friends but the result should be the same: an attractive, eye-catching home.
Objective interior
You love your home’s colour scheme and style but objectivity is everything when selling. General clutter is never appealing. Throw away dilapidated furniture and objects or store them elsewhere. Freshen up run down spaces with a coat of paint or new tapware. Rent extra details if necessary, such as double rather than single beds. When you’re done, ask friends who don’t agree with your everyday design and decorations for their opinion.
Patch-ups and fixes
Finally, ensure all those “to-do list” maintenance and repairs are fixed well before any inspections occur. This includes leaky taps, rusty gutters, broken light switches and more.
The above points don’t need to cost a fortune but starting work on them early will guarantee you and your house hit the ground running on September 1.
