When it comes to finding a real estate agent to sell your home, the interview stage is very important. Whether you’re meeting an agent in their office or discussing the sale of your home over the phone, there are some important questions you should ask to find out more about the agent and their sales process. Here are some of the questions you can ask us before you decide to sell your home with us.

1. Can you provide information on your previous sales?

Us agents learn more on the job than anywhere else, so the more experience we have selling homes, the more efficiently we can get the job done. Having more experience in the industry also means we have a contact list of prospective buyers who we’re helping purchase a new home. It might help the sale of your home to choose an agent who has experience selling in the same local area or selling the same style of home. We can show you the data from our most recent sales in your area to give you a rough idea of price points too.

2. How will you help me prepare my home for sale?

Make sure you choose an agent who has a plan for getting your property to look it’s best for inspections with prospective buyers. Some of the strategies your agent may use to help you prepare your home or sale include a checklist of recommendations of changes you can make to the property and lighting candles and playing music to create a mood that helps buyers establish an emotional connection to the house.

3. How will you market my home?

The marketing campaign an agent uses to sell your home is one of the most important factors you should consider when choosing an agent. Make sure your agent outlines their campaign strategy, how long they expect your home to be on the market, and how much the strategy will cost overall. They should also explain to you why they think the strategy is suitable for selling your home, and suggest any alternative strategies too.

4. How will you sell my home?

Your agent might already know potential buyers who are in a perfect financial position to purchase your property if it meets their criteria. If that’s the case, they may suggest to you an off-market strategy and private open home inspection to sell. However, if they know the competition is high, they may recommend drumming up as much interest as possible and suggest a mass open home or auction. It’s important to understand an agent’s strategy for selling your home and why they think it will be the most successful before you choose.

5. How available are you?

Agents can get extremely busy, especially during the peak selling season. As a result, they may be less flexible than an agent who is currently selling less properties. When it comes to the sale of your home, you want an agent who is attentive, personal and reliable so make sure you’re happy with their availability.

Your home is likely your largest asset so make sure you’re happy with your agent and their strategies for selling your home before you make the commitment.
