A survey conducted by economist, Tony Alexander, found that Kiwis are keen to see more of their own country when current Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. A total of 20 percent of respondents said they will spend more on domestic travel from 14 May when people will be permitted to travel around the country for business or leisure. When Kiwis do begin travelling again and your Airbnb bookings start growing, maintaining the cleanliness of your property will become high priority.
How to keep your Airbnb Covid-free
Due to the Coronavirus being highly contagious, you might need to revamp your cleaning routine after guests checkout to ensure you protect yourself and your future guests from catching Covid-19. It’s possible to contract the Coronavirus by touching a contaminated surface such as a doorknob or light switch which is why it’s essential to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces as often as possible.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends that you wait 24 hours before entering a space occupied by someone who may have been exposed to Covid-19. Airbnb’s cleaning guidelines recommend the following:
- Wear protective gear while cleaning
- Wash your hands thoroughly before and after each clean
- Clean then disinfect surfaces including door handles, cupboard handles, light switches and taps
- Thoroughly clean all surfaces of the home, including lounges, rugs and drapes
- Wash all linens at the highest heat settings recommended for the material
- Avoid touching your face while cleaning
Airbnb guidelines for hosts
Hosts who have partnered in the Frontline Stays program are also required to wait 72 hours between reservations, including a 24 hour waiting period after guests have left to clean and disinfect all areas. To help guests maintain their cleanliness and hygiene, Airbnb recommends you provide enough essential amenities including soap, paper towels and toilet paper, and tell your guests about your revised cleaning routine to ease anxiety.
While restrictions have been eased in New Zealand and domestic travel is permitted, it’s important to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. Stay safe in your Airbnb business.
